Sparring Stance

Unlike traditions stances which must be fixed to a technical standard, your sparring stance should be something that is comfortable for you. Turn your body sideways and look over your front shoulder. Your feet should be turned about 30 degrees. There are two configurations of stances relative to your partner.

In open stance, both chests are facing the same way. This can be a good stance if you are faster than your partner. Both partners are open to back leg roundhouse kicks.

In closed stance, both chests are facing away from each other. This stance is more conservative, and relies more on the use of the front leg.
